Respnse from your Congressman?

Has anyone ever emailed their congressman and gotta a response? In the past, I've sent about 4 different questions/comments and never once recieve a response without having to call daily for about a week.

Is this the norm, or just those that represent my districts?

I''ve contacted Congressman Ortiz two times. I asked for his support of the Fair Tax, and the other time I asked for his support of some Credit Union legislation. Both times I received a reply, most likely from an automated response generated by his staffers. Either way, I still received a response and that''s all you can ask for.

I''ve lobbied with the Associated Builders and Contractors once, and do very small-scale lobbying locally when necessary. I find that most politicians are very happy to listen when you''re calm, clear, and cooperative.

I just sent an email about welfare reform. Pointless, I know, but that''s my annoyance right now.

The page I received was that her staffers review each email receive, but because of the vast number of emails, they can''t respond to every one.

I guess all the dead people and dogs that vote email her a few times a day.

As a matter of fact I wrote my Congressman, Senators, the Govenor, and Rick Perry all by email. I was fairly ticked about the border situation. A month later I got a response. This is, I''m told, normal.

I did get a letter from Rick Perry, formatted of course about that told me all the wonderful things he plans to do.

Ortiz sent me an email. If you like I will forward to you what he sent.

The Senators did the same thing.

The exception was Gene Seaman, to be honest I sent him a blast and got a response the same day from his staff. I was able to hammer things out but my perception of Seaman made a 180. I''m voting for him. I think he is the kind of statesman needed in Austin.

Statesman or Politician?

There are no statesmen in office. Special Interest killed that a hundred or so years ago. Behind every politician is money and power.

You are right curtis but I don''t think they are all bad. I''ve stated before that America has the best politicians money can buy. I still believe that a voter has power for the few months before the politician is elected and special interest gets the rest. That is why I became a member of the special interest groups that share my same interest. Money talk. The system is the system.

Rudy has the right idea. Join the process and that way you get to work to get the best candidate out there to run for you instead of getting some other guy''s political horse.

Gene Seaman is the closest thing to a Statesman I have seen

...I think very highly of Gene Seaman.

He is amicable and pleasant to speak with and has high ideals that have yet to be tainted by politics.

I think Curmudgeon sees my point that all politicians, including those we hold in high regard like Gene Seaman, are influenced by the powers-that-be.

Gene Seaman has one of the deepest political pockets in South Texas. His warchest reminds me of Rambo. This race between him and Juan Garcia will be a big expensive battle.

A mere statesman cannot beat someone like Juan Garcia. It takes a professional politician like Gene.

Right now Garcia''s base consists of the Corpus Democrats and some disgruntled Republicans in Aransas county.

Unless Garcia can come up with about $300,000-$400,000 real quick he''ll go down as a poser.

And, just to keep everyone up to date, I have yet to receive a response from state representative Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles on welfare, and U.S. Representative Ruben E. Hinojosa and I think Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison on the FairTax.

On Hinojosa''s website, it does say that he responds only by snail mail, so I''ll give him a bit longer. Hutchinson has the whole state to worry about, so I can understand some delay in her response also.

As far as Toureilles, this is the third time I have emailed her and only received one response. In it, she responded with: ""In regards to the budget for the University of Texas A&M(sic): the funds appropriated for the Fiscal Years 2006-2007 were increased by over ten million dollars compared to the appropriated amount for the previous biennium.""

This was in response to my questioning about increasing tuition.
